A Bosnian man living in Waterloo, Iowa, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. Hazim Kapic, 61, pleaded guilty on September 17, 2025, to one count of receipt of child pornography.
According to a plea agreement, Kapic admitted to downloading child pornography between February 2020 and August 2024. In August 2024, law enforcement officers searched his residence in Waterloo and seized a hard drive containing thousands of images and videos depicting child pornography. The material included depictions involving prepubescent minors, infants or toddlers, as well as content showing sadistic and masochistic conduct.
Kapic was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. He received a sentence of 120 months’ imprisonment and was ordered to pay $18,000 in restitution to victims. After completing his prison term, he will serve five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse across the country. Kapic remains in custody with the United States Marshal until he is transferred to a federal prison.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake. The investigation involved both the Waterloo Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
