Bruce Dearling, a shareholder at Hepworth Browne and an authority on international patent law, will lead a continuing legal education session titled “Redefining AI and Tech IP: How the UK Supreme Court’s AI Ruling Impacts US Businesses” on April 8. The event offers participants the chance to hear directly from Dearling, who has more than 35 years of experience in private practice and industrial leadership both in the United Kingdom and internationally.

The session is notable because Dearling played a central role in securing the UK Supreme Court’s Emotional Perception AI decision. This case is considered significant for its implications on how artificial intelligence technologies are treated within legal frameworks.

During this one-hour program, Dearling will discuss the ruling’s impact on issues such as patent eligibility, statutory exclusions, and obviousness. He will provide insights into how inventions involving artificial intelligence, neural networks, and computing technologies should be presented in patent applications to improve their chances of success both in the United States and abroad.

Dearling also brings extensive litigation experience from cases across Germany and other European courts. His presentation aims to offer strategic considerations for U.S. businesses dealing with intellectual property challenges in rapidly evolving technology sectors.

Attendees can expect practical guidance that reflects current developments at the intersection of technology innovation and intellectual property law.
