A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. Cordarryl Cortez Smith, 38, pleaded guilty on March 3, 2025, to one count of distribution of a controlled substance near a protected location.
In March 2023, law enforcement officers in Cedar Rapids conducted two purchases of methamphetamine from Smith. One transaction took place within 1,000 feet of a school. On March 22, 2023, officers stopped a car registered to Smith as it returned to Cedar Rapids. Although Smith was traveling in a separate vehicle at the time, his brother and another individual were driving his car. Officers found about an ounce of cocaine and nine pounds of methamphetamine in the trunk. In November 2023, police made multiple additional purchases of cocaine from Smith.
Smith received his sentence from United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. He was given a term of 420 months’ imprisonment and must also serve ten years of supervised release following his prison sentence. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system.
Smith is currently being held by the United States Marshal’s Service until he is transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep and investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, which includes members from the DEA; Linn County Sheriff’s Office; Cedar Rapids Police Department; Marion Police Department; and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
