A Chicago man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for escaping from custody, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa.

Court records show that Terrance Martice Miller, 38, left a Residential Reentry Center where he was required to stay after violating the terms of his supervised release. Miller failed to return to the facility and remained at large.

While on escape status in May 2024, Miller strangled an adult female victim until she could not breathe. After being charged with assault, Miller made over 80 phone calls to the victim in an attempt to persuade her to drop the charges.

The United States Marshals Service investigated this case.
