A federal grand jury in Des Moines has indicted Tyler Boyd Pavlick, 32, on 13 counts related to the sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of children. The indictment alleges that Pavlick produced and attempted to produce sexually explicit images of minors at two cross-country meets for middle school and high school athletes in September 2025, which took place in Marshall and Clarke counties. He is also accused of similar conduct at an arts and crafts festival held in Polk County in October 2025. Additionally, authorities allege that Pavlick possessed a computer containing child sexual abuse material.

If convicted, Pavlick could face up to thirty years in prison for each charge involving the production or attempted production of visual depictions.

Pavlick made his initial appearance before a United States Magistrate Judge in the Southern District of Iowa. His trial is scheduled for February 2, 2025. He remains in custody while awaiting trial.

United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the charges. Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Kerndt is prosecuting the case. The investigation involves several agencies: the FBI Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Task Force, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Des Moines Police Department, and Iowa DCI Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

“An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
