A Dubuque man, Tremaine Laron Moore, Jr., was sentenced to seven years in federal prison on November 17, 2025, after admitting to being a felon in possession of a firearm and violating his supervised release. Moore, age 25, had previously pleaded guilty on May 22, 2025.
According to evidence presented at the hearing, United States Probation Officers conducted an unannounced home visit at Moore’s residence in Dubuque on December 19, 2024. During the search with assistance from a Dubuque police officer, officers discovered a loaded and stolen 9mm handgun as well as marijuana packaged in baggies, a scale, and cash.
The District Court imposed two consecutive sentences: five years for the firearms offense and an additional two years for violating supervised release conditions from a prior federal gun case. Chief Judge C.J. Williams presided over the sentencing in Cedar Rapids. Moore received a total sentence of 84 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole.
Moore’s case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through cooperation between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department of Justice enhanced its PSN strategy on May 26, 2021 to emphasize trust-building with communities, support for violence prevention organizations, focused enforcement efforts, and measurable outcomes.
Additionally, this prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a national initiative using Department of Justice resources to combat illegal immigration, dismantle criminal organizations including cartels and transnational groups, and protect communities from violent offenders.
Moore will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals until his transfer to federal prison.
Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert prosecuted the case. The investigation involved the United States Probation Office for the Northern District of Iowa, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Dubuque Police Department.
