Former Olin man receives 40-year sentence for sexual exploitation of children

Christopher West, a 38-year-old former resident of Olin, Iowa, was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison on September 23, 2025, after pleading guilty to charges related to the sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography. West admitted to sexually exploiting four minors and distributing child pornography during his plea hearing held on April 14, 2025.

According to court records presented at sentencing, West exploited four girls aged 6, 11, 15, and 17. The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. In addition to the prison term of 480 months, West will be subject to a five-year supervised release following his incarceration and must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.

Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel prosecuted the case. The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cortland (Illinois) Police Department, the Waterloo Police Department, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Anamosa Police Department, the Jefferson City (Tennessee) Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
