Illinois woman sentenced for diverting drugs from healthcare facilities

A woman from Colona, Illinois, has been sentenced for diverting prescription drugs while employed as an administrator at nursing and senior living facilities.

Cassandra Marie Strube, 40, was found to have obtained prescription pills from at least five healthcare facilities between September 2021 and November 2022. According to public court documents, Strube acquired fentanyl patches, hydrocodone, morphine, and oxycodone by stealing them from the facilities’ narcotics emergency kits and locked medication carts and rooms.

Strube has been sentenced to a three-year term of probation. In addition to probation, she was ordered to pay $1,975.61 in restitution, a $5,000 fine, and a $200 special assessment.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing – Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (DIAL/MFCU).

A Muscatine man has been sentenced to fifteen years in federal prison after being convicted for transporting child pornography while on probation for a previous offense. Authorities say he must also pay restitution and serve supervised release after prison.
