Attorney General Brenna Bird has issued a warning to Iowa residents about the increased risk of scams during the holiday season. As shoppers take advantage of extended Black Friday deals, Cyber Monday sales, and participate in Giving Tuesday, there is also a rise in scam activity targeting consumers.

Bird advised caution when encountering offers that appear unusually good or when making charitable donations. “It’s important to watch out for deals that seem too good to be true and know who you are giving to,” said Attorney General Bird. “Scammers are looking to prey on Iowans’ generosity and those looking for good deals.”

Residents who believe they have been targeted by a scam are encouraged to contact the Iowa Attorney General’s office at 1-888-777-4590 or file a complaint online at https://www.iowaattorneygeneral.gov/for-consumers/file-a-consumer-complaint. Local law enforcement can also be contacted for assistance.
