An Iowa City man has been sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for receipt of child pornography. Jeffrey Alan Guentert, 57, received the sentence on September 15, 2025, following an investigation that began in 2023.
According to court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, law enforcement determined that Guentert had downloaded files containing child sexual abuse material. Authorities seized a total of 87 electronic devices from his home and workplace during a search. Guentert was employed by the city at the time.
A forensic review revealed that at least 44 of these devices were used by Guentert to receive, view, and possess images and videos with child sexual abuse content between 2019 and 2023. Investigators found more than 5,000 images and over 1,500 videos related to this offense.
After serving his prison term, Guentert will be under supervised release for five years. He has also been ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentence. The Johnson County Joint Forensic Analysis Cyber Team and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national effort launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordination among federal, state, and local agencies.
