An Iowa City man, Nong Chatchanok Press, was sentenced on March 17 to 110 months in federal prison for receiving child pornography.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and federal prosecutors to address crimes involving the exploitation of children online. Press, age 23, was found to have received and uploaded files containing child sexual abuse material through accounts identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, law enforcement seized electronic devices from Press’s residence in December 2023 and a phone during his arrest in February 2025. A forensic examination revealed that Press used these devices to receive, view, and possess more than 117,000 images and 300 videos depicting child sexual abuse material.
After serving his prison sentence, Press will be subject to a supervised release period of fifteen years. He was also ordered to pay $123,000 in restitution. There is no parole in the federal system.
United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentence. The University of Iowa Police Department investigated the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to identify offenders and rescue victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/psc.
