Iowa man faces federal sex abuse charge related to Meskwaki Settlement incident

Johnathan Paul Creason, a 20-year-old from Norwalk, Iowa, has been charged with one count of sexual abuse that allegedly occurred on the Meskwaki Settlement. The charge was revealed in a complaint unsealed in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.

According to the complaint, on or about February 10, 2026, Creason visited the victim’s residence on the Meskwaki Settlement and engaged in nonconsensual forced sexual intercourse with the victim. Authorities also indicated that Creason is under investigation by both the Ankeny Police Department and Ames Police Department for additional alleged sexual assaults involving other unrelated victims.

If found guilty, Creason could face up to life imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and five years of supervised release after any prison term.

Creason made his initial appearance today in federal court in Cedar Rapids and is being held without bond.

“As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”

The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa C. Williams. The investigation involves the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Meskwaki Nation Police Department, Ankeny Police Department, and Ames Police Department.
