Attorney General Brenna Bird has announced the launch of the Opioid Crisis Grant application site, providing an opportunity for organizations across Iowa to seek funding to address the opioid crisis.
The grants are part of a larger effort by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, which has secured more than $365 million through settlements with opioid manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies, and related parties. Of this amount, approximately $186 million is allocated to the state and $179 million to Iowa counties.
Legislation passed in 2025 designated 25% of Iowa’s share of settlement funds for programs managed by the Attorney General’s office. As a result, around $20 million is expected to be available for distribution by June 30, 2030.
Organizations interested in applying for these grants can do so on the application site. Those who signed up for notifications were informed when the site went live on March 2. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and all types of projects are encouraged to apply. Funded projects must meet requirements set by the National Opioids Settlement and the Iowa Opioid Allocation Memorandum of Understanding.
“The opioid epidemic is one of the greatest problems plaguing our society today,” said Attorney General Bird. “As attorney general, I’m thankful to have secured settlements from opioid manufactures, pharmacies, distributors that profited off of illegal marketing, dispensing, and distribution of opioids. Now, we’ll use this money to prevent and treat opioid addiction in our Iowa communities.”
