The Iowa State Bar Association announced on April 29 that registration is open for its 2026 Juvenile Law Seminar on May 14 and Criminal Law Seminar on May 15, with a discounted rate available to those who sign up for both events. The seminars will take place at the ISBA Building in Des Moines and are also accessible via live webinar.
The bundled offering allows legal professionals to participate in two days of continuing education focused on juvenile and criminal law, providing an opportunity to save money while accessing practical training. Each seminar features sessions relevant to current legal practice, as well as credits toward continuing legal education requirements.
The Juvenile Law Seminar covers topics such as recent case law developments, standards for representing children, dual status youth, parent visitation rights, confidentiality issues in juvenile proceedings, and attorney wellness. Attendees can earn up to 7.75 CLE hours including ethics and wellness credits. The following day’s Criminal Law Seminar addresses search and seizure procedures, eyewitness identification issues, legislative updates, specialty courts, and considerations related to youth involvement in the justice system. This program provides eight CLE hours with additional ethics and diversity credit opportunities.
Both events are designed not only for educational advancement but also encourage networking among participants through professional exchange sessions. According to the official website, the Iowa Bar Association promotes diversity, equity and inclusion within the profession; utilizes its Des Moines headquarters for member activities; honors excellence through awards; serves over 6,500 lawyers and judges licensed in Iowa; supports members’ service to clients and communities while fostering professional growth; is governed by a board of 47 elected members from judicial districts; and is recognized as the oldest voluntary state bar association in the United States.
