The Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Fairfield on April 21 as part of its outreach efforts. The session is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fairfield High School Auditorium, located at 605 E. Broadway Avenue, and is open to the public.
This event gives community members a chance to observe the state’s highest court in action and learn more about how judicial proceedings work. The court’s visit is part of an ongoing initiative to engage with Iowans across different regions.
During the session, justices will consider State of Iowa v. Kevin Charles Lind (consolidated case numbers 25–0819 and 25–0821), which originated from Polk County District Court. The central issue involves whether Iowa’s human trafficking statute applies when a defendant tries to purchase commercial sex from someone they believe would procure a minor for that purpose.
Attorneys’ briefs related to this case are available for public review on the Iowa Judicial Branch website, providing additional context for those interested in following the proceedings more closely.
After the oral arguments conclude, attendees are invited to a public reception with the justices sponsored by the Jefferson County Bar Association.
