A man living in Omaha, Nebraska, has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported as a felon. Julio Cesar Moreno-Anaya, 47, admitted in a Sioux City court to entering the country without authorization and acknowledged his prior felony theft conviction from 2016 in Hidalgo County, Texas.
Authorities arrested Moreno-Anaya on September 15, 2025, in Britt, Iowa, for speeding and driving without a valid license. During his time in custody, officials discovered that he was a Mexican citizen who had been deported from the United States to Mexico eight times before.
Moreno-Anaya is currently being held pending sentencing by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. The date for sentencing will be set after completion of a presentence report. He faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case is prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and investigated by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office along with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
