An individual who repeatedly entered the United States illegally has been sentenced to federal prison. Angel Aranda-Vazquez, a 37-year-old citizen of Mexico, was sentenced on September 22, 2025, to 168 days in prison after pleading guilty on June 25, 2025, to being found in the country following illegal reentry. Aranda-Vazquez had previously been removed from the U.S. and was discovered attempting to use false identification documents in Tama County, Iowa.
The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. In addition to his prison sentence, Aranda-Vazquez will serve a one-year term of supervised release after completing his time in custody. The federal system does not allow for parole.
Currently, Aranda-Vazquez remains in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service and will be transferred to immigration authorities for further proceedings.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Enforcement and Removal Operations.
According to the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), this case is part of an effort that combines resources from multiple agencies to address illegal immigration and target criminal organizations.
“There is no parole in the federal system.”
