A Waterloo, Iowa man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a drug conspiracy. Adis Vretenarevic, 30, pleaded guilty on March 21, 2025, to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

According to court records, between August 2022 and January 2024, Vretenarevic participated in a scheme to distribute large amounts of marijuana in the Waterloo area. During this period, he deposited thousands of dollars from drug sales into an account associated with the trafficking organization. At the time of these activities, Vretenarevic was already under federal supervision following a previous conviction for possession of a firearm by a drug user.

Chief Judge C.J. Williams handed down the sentence on August 18, 2025, at the U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his prison term, Vretenarevic will serve five years of supervised release after completing his sentence. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole. He remains in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service pending transfer to a federal facility.
