A Memphis man with a history of domestic violence convictions has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm during another domestic assault. Travis Terrell Jordan, 41, pleaded guilty on September 12, 2025, to possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic violence.
According to information presented at the sentencing hearing, Jordan had four prior convictions for domestic abuse before December 2024. On December 13, 2024, he assaulted a woman in an apartment in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During the incident, Jordan struck the victim in the face and threatened her with a gun while her two minor children were present.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Jordan to 53 months in prison and ordered him to serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration. Federal sentences do not allow for parole. Jordan is currently held by the United States Marshal’s Service pending transfer to a federal facility.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through cooperation between law enforcement agencies and communities. “On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.”
Additionally, this prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice targeting illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while aiming to protect communities from violent crime.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Nagin prosecuted the case with investigative support from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Cedar Rapids Police Department.
