A man from Reinbeck, Iowa, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. Austin David Hansen, aged 39, pleaded guilty on December 23, 2024, to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance after having a prior serious drug felony conviction.
Court documents revealed that from December 2023 to May 22, 2024, Hansen collaborated with a supplier he met in federal prison. They shipped methamphetamine and marijuana from California to post office boxes in Reinbeck, Dike, and Waterloo, Iowa. Hansen distributed the drugs within the Northern District of Iowa and sent over $260,000 in drug proceeds back to the supplier.
During the investigation, law enforcement intercepted a package containing over 5,000 grams of methamphetamine. On May 22, 2024, search warrants were executed at multiple locations including Hansen’s residence where officers seized over 600 grams of methamphetamine along with other evidence.
Hansen had previously been convicted of federal drug trafficking and was sentenced to prison in November 2011. His recent sentencing was conducted by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his prison term of 240 months’ imprisonment without parole eligibility under the federal system guidelines; he will also serve ten years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards prosecuted this case which involved multiple agencies including the United States Postal Service; Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI); Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force comprising several local police departments across different counties such as Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office among others; Iowa Division Narcotics Enforcement Bureau Alcohol Tobacco Firearms Explosives Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force Grundy County Sheriff’s Office Iowa State Patrol Santa Ana California Police Department played roles during investigations leading up towards prosecution efforts against him.
Hansen remains held by U.S Marshals awaiting transfer into an appropriate facility serving out remaining sentence duration period assigned accordingly upon completion procedural requirements necessary ensure compliance statutory obligations fulfilled throughout process undertaken collectively all parties involved therein ensuring justice served appropriately commensurate nature severity offenses committed therein context circumstances surrounding events transpired herein described above
