A Sioux City woman has been sentenced to prison for violating federal firearms laws. Maria Francisca Portalatin, 53, was sentenced on July 9, 2025, in a federal court in Sioux City. She had previously pled guilty on February 7, 2025, to several charges.
Portalatin faced one count of being a prohibited person in possession of firearms, one count of making false statements during the purchase of firearms, one count of straw purchase of firearms, and one count of concealing a person from arrest.
A Sioux City man has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography. Authorities say Ry Tyler’s case involved thousands of illicit images discovered during an investigation earlier this year.
Bridgette Marie Washington has been sentenced to over twenty years in federal prison for selling fentanyl-laced drugs that caused an overdose death in Waterloo. Authorities say she was involved with multiple non-fatal overdoses before the fatal incident occurred.
