A Spencer, Iowa man has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Dylan Everett Halbur, 33, received his sentence on August 27, 2025, following a guilty plea earlier this year.

According to court records presented during Halbur’s plea and sentencing hearings, law enforcement executed a search warrant on August 26, 2024, at a camper in Spencer where Halbur lived and stored items. Officers found about 45 grams of methamphetamine, $2,900 in cash, marijuana, a digital scale and other items linked to drug use and distribution. Halbur admitted that the methamphetamine was his and said he planned to distribute some or all of it.

Halbur was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City. He received a prison term of 105 months and will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

Halbur remains in custody of the United States Marshal while awaiting transfer to federal prison.
