Steven William Acklin, age 28 and formerly from Waterloo, Iowa, pled guilty on March 23 in federal court in Cedar Rapids to charges of sexual exploitation of children and receipt of child pornography.

The case is significant as it involves the sexual exploitation of minors over an extended period. Authorities say these crimes can have lasting effects on victims and highlight the importance of law enforcement efforts to address such offenses.

During his plea hearing, Acklin admitted that between January 2024 and September 2024 he persuaded, induced, and enticed multiple minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions. He also admitted that between October 2023 and November 2024 he received child pornography.

The outcome underscores ongoing concerns about online safety for children and the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in investigating these types of crimes. The prosecution was handled by federal authorities in Cedar Rapids.

Further proceedings are expected as the case moves toward sentencing.
