A woman from Waterloo, Iowa, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison for making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. Arryel Skye Waters, 24, pleaded guilty on September 4, 2025.

According to court records presented at her plea and sentencing hearings, Waters attempted to buy a gun from a store in Cedar Falls in July 2023 while accompanied by her then-17-year-old boyfriend. Store employees became suspicious that she was not buying the gun for herself and refused the sale. Waters then went to another store in Cedar Falls, where her boyfriend waited in the car. She purchased a Glock firearm there and indicated on official paperwork that she was buying it for herself. In reality, she bought it for her boyfriend. Both Waters and her boyfriend were using marijuana at the time.

In November 2023, while working as a delivery driver, Waters told her boyfriend about comments made by employees at one of her delivery stops. Her boyfriend later confronted those employees with the firearm that Waters had purchased for him. He was subsequently arrested and charged with several offenses, including being a felon in possession of a firearm due to his prior burglary conviction.

At sentencing on February 19, 2026, U.S. District Court officials noted that Waters’ actions enabled someone legally barred from possessing firearms to obtain one.
